South Coast Constructions

The client owned an extremely difficult site with an architect's design that would have daunted most builders. Artisan Construct responded by managing all aspects of the project including dealing with very steep slopes, water run-off, extremely tight access and demanding design challenges to produce a unique and high-quality home within a very tight budget.

Spotted gum cladding with feature extruded mouldings to align with the entry window heads form the south-facing main entry. All accessed from a dramatic driveway build up comprising of natural rock walls and exposed aggregate paving. A custom-designed oversize pivot door constructed from spotted gum is the entry feature door which also has a bespoke handle.
To provide visual contrast, the timber cladding transitions to rendered Hebel at corner junctions. Façade depth is illustrated through recessed deep reveals an external protruding sun box, whilst visually striking these features offer thermal energy efficiencies.
The building form works with the naturally steep gradient with three defined elements of the building, essentially cut into the hill to minimise the potentially imposing visual impact of a large dwelling.

The window selection ensures the dramatic views are captured due to the sheer size of the glazed units and the functional performance of thermally broken, argon filled double glazed units addresses the seasonal extremes of hills living in Crafers.
